This little heart is in memory of my father-in-law, who passed away last week. He was a kind, gentle man who I wish I’d had more opportunity to get to know.
This is a beginning to intermediate pattern and requires two shuttles.
I used Lizbeth size 40 thread, and the heart is approximately 2 inches (7 cm) in diameter.

You will need:
Thread in your choice of color and size. I used Lizbeth size 40 white.
2 tatting shuttles

Instructions:
Wind one shuttle, leaving the ball attached. Measure 1 to 2 yards (meters) of thread from the ball, clip, and wind onto the second shuttle.
Round 1
R: (2ds p) 7 times, 2ds, close, turn
Ch: 20ds lj to center p of previous R, do not turn
With Shuttle 2, work clover as follows
R: (2ds p) 5 times, 2ds, close, do not turn
R: 2ds j to last p of previous R, (2ds p) 6 times, 2ds, close, do not turn
R: 2ds j to last p of previous R, (2ds p) 4 times, 2ds, close, do not turn
With Shuttle 1, Ch: 20ds lj to base of first R
Round 2
Ch: 4ds p (2ds p) 19 times, lj to center p of center R of clover on previous round, p (2ds p) 20 times, 4ds, lj to base of first R
Round 3
Ch: (2ds p) 4 times, 2ds, turn
R: 2ds p 2ds j to 3rd p on previous round, 2ds p 2ds, close, turn
Ch: p (2ds p) 3 times, 2ds, turn
R: (2ds p) 2 times, 2ds j to 3rd free p on previous round, (2ds p) 2 times, 2ds, close, turn
*Ch: p (2ds p) 4 times, 2ds, turn
R: (2ds p) 2 times, 2ds j to 3rd free p on previous round, (2ds p) 2 times, 2ds, close, turn*
Repeat between * twice more.

With Shuttle 2, work clover as follows
