Tatted Hairband

Tatted Hairband

I would think most little girls would love to have this headband. Plus, it’s a fast, easy, inexpensive, and fun project. The only challenge I had was to keep from burning my fingers on the hot glue.

If you’re like me, you have odd pieces of tatting in little bags, mostly mistakes I’ve made but just couldn’t just throw out. It occurred to me as I put this together that this would be a fun way to use up those odd pieces of tatting.

This is a beginner pattern and requires one shuttle. Each motif is about 1 inch wide (3 cm) when done with size 20 thread.

I used Lizbeth size 20 thread in white.

Instructions:

*Start next ring about 1/8 inch (3mm) from the previous ring
R: 3ds j to last p of previous R, 3ds p 1ds p 1ds lp 1ds p 1ds p 3ds p 3ds, close, do not turn*
Repeat until you have completed five rings
Start next ring about 1/8″ (3mm) from the previous ring
R: 3ds j to last p of previous R, 3ds p 1ds p 1ds lp 1ds p 1ds p 3ds j to first p of first R 3ds, close
Cut threads to about 1/4 inch. I found it wasn’t necessary to tie them together since the hot glue will hold everything together itself.

Repeat until you’ve completed five or more medallions.

Attach the medallions to a store-bought hairband using hot glue. Put a big blob of glue in the center of one medallion and quickly but gently press a bunch of assorted seed beads into the glue. Shape into a dome as it cools. Repeat for all medallions, and let cool.
