Tatted Berries

Summer in Colorado brings fresh strawberries to the stores and to the mountains. I designed three berries to celebrate summer here–a raspberry, a wild strawberry, and a domestic strawberry.

Wouldn’t these look great on the collar of a denim shirt?

These are beginner-level 1- and 2-shuttle patterns using simple rings and chains. They were tatted using DMC Cebelia size 30 thread. Each berry is about 1 to 1.5 inches long.

R: Make this ring with your second shuttle. 2ds j to last p of previous Ch, (2ds p) ten times 2ds, close, do not turn
Ch: 2ds j to last p of previous R, (2ds p) 8 times 2ds, turn
R: 4ds p 4ds j to 2nd p of center R of clover leaf, 4ds p 4ds, close, turn
Ch: (2ds p) 5 times 2ds, turn
R: 3ds j to last p of previous R, 3ds j to center p of first R, 3ds p 3ds, close, turn
Ch: (2ds p) 8 times 10ds
Cut and tie to base of clover leaf.

Using DMC Cebelia green
R: 20ds j to last p of last Ch, 8ds p 3ds, close
R: 3ds j to last p of previous R, 20ds p 3ds, close
R: 3ds j to last p of previous R, 8ds j to first p of first Ch, 20ds, close, turn
Ch: 15ds Push these stitches tight enough on the shuttle thread to make the chain curl nicely.
Cut and tie.
