2016 Doily row 3

Here’s row 3!  I think this doily works with just this many rows, but I’m going to continue it.  I’m having fun adding new colors!  I think this would look good in one color, too.  Some of the design elements would show up better without the distraction of the color changes, like the three clovers in a row on each side.

I used Lizbeth Orange Crush Color 183 Size 40 thread for this row. The design as shown is approximately 5 inches (16 cm) across when stitched with size 40 thread.

You will need:

Threads in your choice of color and size.
<1 tatting shuttle or tatting needle

dsdouble stitch
ppicot
jjoin
 lj lock join

Instructions:

Before you fill your shuttle, pass the thread through the center p of the center R of one of the medallions on row 1.  Do NOT cut the thread before you begin stitching.

Ch1: (2ds p) 11 times, 2ds, turn
Clover 1
R1: (2ds p) 3 times, 2ds j to center p of next R on row 1, (2ds p) 3 times, 2ds, close, do not turn
R2: 2ds j to last p of previous R, (2ds p) 4 times, 2ds, close, do not turn
R3: 2ds j to last p of previous R, (2ds p) 2 times, 2ds j to second p of Ch3 of adjacent medallion on row 2 (first Ch without any joins connected to it), (2ds p) 3 times, 2ds, close, turn
Ch2: 2ds j to last p of previous Ch, (2ds p) 16 times, 2ds, turn
Clover 2
R4: (2ds p) 7 times, 2ds, close, do not turn
R5: 2ds j to last p of previous R, 2ds p 2ds j to center p of next Ch on row 2, (2ds p) 2 times 2ds, close, do not turn
R6: 2ds j to last p of previous R, (2ds p) 6 times, 2ds, close, turn
Ch3: 2ds j to last p of previous Ch, (2ds p) 20 times, 2ds, turn
Clover 3: Repeat Clover 2
Ch4: 2ds j to last p of previous Ch, (2ds p) 16 times, 2ds, turn
Clover 4
R7: (2ds p) 3 times, 2ds j to fourth p of next free Ch on row 2, (2ds p) 3 times, 2ds, close, do not turn
R8: 2ds j to last p of previous R, (2ds p) 4 times, 2ds, close, do not turn
R9: 2ds j to last p of previous R, (2ds p) 2 times, 2ds, j to center p of nearest R on Clover on nearest medallion from row 1, (2ds p) 3 times, 2ds, close, turn
Ch5: 2ds p (2ds p) 10 times, 2ds, lj to center p of next R on row 1

Repeat around with the following exceptions.

Ch1: 2ds j to last p of previous Ch, (2ds p) 10 times, 2ds, turn
The very last Ch5: 2ds p (2ds p) 9 times, 2ds j to first p of first Ch on this row, 2ds
Cut and tie.
