Tatted Scallops Edging

Tatted Scallops Edging

I wanted to create an edging that scallops and only attaches at the top of each scallop. This was a fun design to create! It’s fun and fast to stitch, too. I hope you enjoy it.

This pattern uses two shuttles and is an intermediate beginner pattern. It requires two shuttles because of the little ring at the top of each scallop. It’s possible to do this with the shoelace trick, but since there is nothing else holding this little ring straight, it will twist and turn, and I don’t recommend it.

I used Lizbeth White Color 601 Size 40. The edging is about 1.75 inches (5 cm) tall and each repeat is about 2-1/4 inches (7 cm) wide when stitched with size 40 thread.

You will need:

Thread in your choice of color and size.
2 tatting shuttles or tatting needle

dsdouble stitch
ppicot
jjoin
ljlock join

Instructions:

This design works best if you wind both shuttles continuously. To do this, wind one shuttle, pull more thread from the ball, then cut the thread. Wind this other end of the thread on the second shuttle. Do not cut the thread again before you start tatting.
