Tatted Cherries

The trees are in full blossom here, and they’re gorgeous! I saw one particularly beautiful tree as I left a parking lot last week, and it occurred to me that it would be fun to tat some cherries. So here’s this month’s pattern!

This is a beginner pattern and requires one shuttle. I used DMC Cebelia size 30 thread.

Thread in your choice of color and size.
1 tatting shuttle

dsdouble stitch
ppicot
jjoin
ljlock join

Instructions:

Cherry 1

R: (3ds p) 5 times, 3ds, close, turn
*Ch: 15ds, turn
R: 3ds p 3ds j to 4th p of previous R, (3ds p) 3 times, 3ds, close, turn*
Repeat between * until 4 Ch have been completed.
R: 3ds p 3ds j to 4th p of previous R, 3ds p 3ds j to 2nd p of first R, 3ds p 3ds, close, turn
Ch: 5ds p 10ds lj to base of first R
Ch: 50ds

Leaf

Stitch this first ring just a tiny bit away from this last chain. This will allow you to turn the leaf in whichever direction you choose when you’re done.

R: (3ds p) 7 times, 3ds, close
Leave 3/8″ of thread between this ring and the next
R: 3ds p 3ds j to 6th p of previous R, (3ds p) 5 times, 3ds, close
R: 3ds j to last p of previous R, (3ds p) 6 times, 3ds, close
R: 3ds j to last p of previous R, (3ds p) 6 times, 3ds, close
Join with the shuttle thread to thread between first and second rings
R: 3ds p 3ds j to 6th p of previous R, (3ds p) 5 times, 3ds, close, turn
Ch: 4ds p (2ds p) 7 times, 1ds lj to 4th p of first R in leaf
Ch: 1ds p (2ds p) 4 times, 1ds lj to 4th p of next R
Ch: 1ds p (2ds p) 4 times, 1ds lj to 3rd p of next R
Ch: 1ds p 2ds p 2ds long p 2ds p 2ds p 1ds lj to 5th p of the same R
Ch: 1ds p (2ds p) 4 times, 1ds lj to 4th p of next R
Ch: 1ds p (2ds p) 4 times, 1ds lj to 4th p of next R
Ch: 1ds p (2ds p) 7 times, 4ds lj to space before the first R
Ch: 50ds

Cherry 2

R: (3ds p) 5 times, 3ds, close, turn
**Ch: 15ds, turn
R: 3ds p 3ds j to 4th p of previous R, (3ds p) 3 times, 3ds, close, turn**
Repeat between ** until three Ch have been completed.
R: 3ds p 3ds j to 4th p of previous R, (3ds p) 3 times, 3ds, close, turn
Ch: 7ds j to p on first cherry, 8ds turn
R: 3ds p 3ds j to 4th p of previous R, 3ds p 3ds j to 2nd p of first R, 3ds p 3ds, close, turn
Ch: 15ds

Cut and tie. Fold leaf back to where you’d like it. I steamed my tatting, and the leaf stays in place reasonably well.
