Here’s a quick and easy gift idea!
I dug through my stash of buttons and found these pretty black ones. You can choose any type you want. I thought about using the little train buttons I have, but decided on these instead.
When you use size 20 thread, the earrings measure an inch (3cm) across.
This design is beginner level and uses one shuttle. I used size 20 Lizbeth thread color 122 Caribbean.

You will need:
Size 20 thread in your choice of color.
1 tatting shuttle
Two 5/8″ (16mm) decorative buttons
Glue
Two earring findings

Instructions:
Wind 1-2 yards (1-2 meters) of thread on a shuttle, do not cut.
R: (2ds p) 5 times, 2ds, close, turn
*Ch: (2ds p) 5 times, 2ds, turn
R: 2ds p 2ds j to 4th p of previous R, (2ds p) 3 times, 2ds, close, turn*
Repeat between * until 5 rings are completed.
Ch: (2ds p) 5 times, 2ds, turn
R: 2ds p 2ds j to 4th p of previous R, 2ds p 2ds j to 2nd p of first R in motif, 2ds, p 2ds, close, turn
Ch: (2ds p) 5 times, 2ds
Cut and tie.
Glue to the back of one decorative button. I used hot glue.
Using pliers, slightly open the loop on the finding. Slip one of the center picots from any chain through the loop, making sure the earring will face the front. Using the pliers, close the loop.
Repeat for the second earring.
