Tatted Bookmark

Tatted Bookmark

This is one of my first attempts at designing. I wanted a bookmark that would look something like a miniature doily, but that would go together rather quickly. This was on my original site tatted in white #40 crochet cotton. This model is red #30 Cebelia. Cebelia is a much nicer thread than the crochet cotton. It’s much smoother and easier to work with.

The instructions below haven’t changed from those on my original site except that I added one more ring to each end. It was too much of a stretch around the corner without it.

Instructions:

ppicotspsmall picot

Round 1

R: (3ds p) 5 times 3ds close, turn work
*Ch: (3ds p) 5 times 3ds, turn work
R: (3ds p) 5 times 3ds close (do not join to previous ring), turn work*
Repeat from * to * until you have 9 rings.
Ch: (3ds p) 11 times 3ds, turn work
R: (3ds p) 3 times 3ds j to 4th p of previous r 3ds p 3ds close, turn work
*Ch: (3ds p) 5 times 3ds, turn work
R: 3ds p 3ds j to 2nd p of r opposite 3ds p 3ds j to 4th p of next r 3ds p 3ds close, turn work*
Repeat from * to * until you have 9 rings on this side of bookmark (total of 18 rings).
Ch: (3ds p) 11 times 3ds
Tie ends into first ring and tie off.

Round 2

R: 4ds p 4ds j to 2nd p of a chain on side of bookmark from previous round 4ds p 4ds close, turn work
Ch: 4ds p 4ds, turn work
Continue this pattern around the sides of the bookmark, joining center p of rings to second and fourth picots of chains. Around the ends of the bookmark, attach rings to picots number 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 10. Ch around ends should be 5ds p 5ds.
Tie ends into first ring and tie off.
