I saw this frame pendant and just couldn’t resist making something to go in it. I love pansies, and it just seemed right to tat one to put in the pendant.
I used Lizbeth size 40 threads in Golden Yellow Medium Color 613, Leaf Green Medium Color 684, and Purple Iris Dark Color 647.

You will need:
Threads in your choice of color and size.
2 tatting shuttles or tatting needles
1 small pearl seed bead
Small square of coordinating fabric – I used cross-stitch linen
1 pendant kit
A few inches of white sewing thread and a needle

Instructions:
Pansy “beard” (yellow in the sample)
Start the first ring several inches from the end of the thread.
R: (1ds p) 5 times 1ds, close
R: (1ds p) 7 times, 1ds, close
R: (1ds p) 5 times, 1ds close
Cut the thread several inches from the last ring. You will use the two thread ends to sew the beard to the fabric.
Pansy upper petals (purple in the sample)
Start the first ring several inches from the end of the thread.
R: (1ds p) 11 times, 1ds, close
R: (1ds p) 11 times, 1ds, close
Cut the thread several inches from the last ring. You will use the two thread ends to sew the petals to the fabric.
Stem (green in the sample)
Use two shuttles.
Work the first ds in the first Ch around the thread separating the two purple rings. This ensures that the first stitch in the chain will lock the chain onto the rings.
Ch: 8ds, do not turn

Ch: 7ds, tie. Cut the thread, leaving several inches. You will use the two thread ends to sew the stem to the fabric.
If you’d rather not use two shuttles, do the stem as follows.
Ch: 8ds, do not turn, SL
R: 7ds close, do not turn, SL
Ch: 7ds, tie.
Assembly:
Using a needle, bring the thread from the purple rings through the fabric square. Place the yellow rings and bring the yellow thread ends through the fabric. Tie knots in the thread ends on the back side of the fabric. Place the stem then bring the thread ends through the fabric and tie. Trim, leaving a bit of thread beyond the knot. String the bead onto the white sewing thread, then sew the bead in place by bringing the thread ends to the back. Tie and trim.
Use double-sided tape or glue to attach the work to the small circle of the pendant kit. Trim the fabric about 1/4 inch (4 mm) from the edge of the circle. Glue or tape the circle to the back side of the large circle. Use the hole in the circle as a reference for placement. Glue the pendant frame around the small circle. Attach the jump ring. Here are instructions for attaching jump rings.
If you want, you can skip gluing the fabric to the small circle and just glue it to the large circle. Then glue on the pendant frame and discard the small circle.
