When I designed this ornament, I wanted something different than I had done before. All my other ornaments involve tying the tatting to the ball, but this one is added using small rust-proof sewing pins. If you look closely, you may be able to see some on the photograph. What I didn’t realize when I was designing this was what a fun edging this makes as well.
This pattern uses one shuttle and is an experienced beginner pattern due to the beads.
I used Lizbeth Lizbeth Leaf Green Medium Color 684 Size 20. The edging is about 1.5 inches (4 cm) tall and each repeat is about 1-3/4 inches (5 cm) wide when stitched with size 20 thread.

You will need:
Thread in your choice of color and size.
1 tatting shuttles or tatting needle
one 2.5-inch diameter satin-covered styrofoam ball
Approximately 140 2mm beads (amount may vary)
ds | double stitch |
p | picot |
j | join |
Instructions:
Seven repeats of the design is needed to go around a 2.5-inch ball when using size 20 thread. Depending on the thread and the size of ball you use, the number of repeats will be different. Before winding the thread on the shuttle, add 20 2mm beads for each repeat to the thread. I like to put extra beads on just in case. Wind the shuttle.
