Recently, I decided to take one of my old patterns and see what else I could do with it. One of the ideas I had resulted in this little doily. I’m often surprised how putting multiple of the same motifs together can create something quite different than the original. I was really pleased with how this idea worked out.
Here’s the original pattern: Clover drop heart
This is a beginner pattern and requires two shuttles. I used Lizbeth size 40 thread, and the doily is about 4-1/4 inches in diameter (11 cm).

This doily is made up of four hearts.
Heart
Start at the green ring in the visual pattern.
R: (3ds p) 13 times, 3ds, close, turn
Ch: (2ds p) 5 times, 2ds, turn
R: 3ds p 3ds j to 12th p of previous R, 2ds p 2ds p 2ds, close, do not turn
R: 2ds j to last p of previous R 2ds p 2ds p 3ds p 3ds, close, turn
Ch: (2ds p) 7 times, 2ds, turn
R: 3ds p 3ds j to 3rd p of previous R, (3ds p) 5 times, 3ds, close, turn
Ch: (2ds p) 7 times, 2ds, turn
R: 3ds p 3ds j to 6th p of previous R, 3ds p 3ds, close, do not turn
R: (3ds p) 3 times, 3ds, close, turn
Ch: (2ds p) 7 times, 2ds, turn

Make three more hearts, joining at the following picots (see red picots in visual pattern). Be sure to make joins on both sides of the last heart.
Picots 4 and 6 in the large picot at the bottom of the heart.

Picot 3 of the 9th Ch in the motif.
